After just a few decades of widespread use in our food, genetically modified foods, or GMOs, are creating alarming effects organisms in our bodies andthe biosphere. Largely unregulated global food reap while suppressing the truth about their products. But the first long term testsnowshow a clear connection between unprecedented levels of disease and eating FDA approved GMOs. Several state coalitions are exposing the deception and health risks of GMOs, educating consumers to take action.
Smith: There is an effort to genetically engineer one hundred percent of all commercial seeds in the world by companies like Monsanto. What do we mean by genetic engineering? It means talking genes from one species and forcing it into the DNA of another species. Soy, for example that can with stand doses of Monsanto’s Roundup, corn that produces its own toxic insecticide, its called Bt corn. It turns out that when you look at the animal feeding studies from these products, as the American Academy of Environmental Medicine did, they found substantial problems in reproductive, immune and digestive systems as well as organ damage and accelerated aging. They urged all doctors to prescribe non- GMO diets to every patient. Now there are thousands of doctors doing just that and we’re finding that people are getting better from a wide variety of diseases, the same diseases and disorders that are afflicting the lab animals fed GMOs. And when livestock are taken off GM soy and corn, they too get better in these same categories of diseases, which are on the rise in the US population since GMOs were introduced.
That’s Jeffrey Smith, executive Director of the Institute for Responsible Technology and author of Seeds of Deception: Exposing Industry and Government Lies about the Safety of the Genetically Engineered Foods You’re Eating. Smith: Doctors say that GMOs cause inflammation and inflammation of course is the basis of so many diseases. The Bt corn toxin that’s applied to plants to kill insects – it breaks open the stomach of insects to kill them – they’ve finally taken residues or extracts of the Bt toxin from Monsanto’s corn, applied it to human cells in a laboratory and sure enough, it poked holes in human cells as well, causing leakage. Now this could explain why we’re seeing so many gastrointestinal disorders in the United States since GMOs were introduced. Turns out that in Canada, they found the Bt toxin in the blood of 93 percent of pregnant women and in the blood of eighty percent of their unborn fetuses. So it appears to be breaking holes in the walls of the intestines, getting into the bloodstream and possibly causing leaky gut which is linked to cancer, auto-immune disease, food allergies, inflammation, Alzheimer, even autism. Roundup, it turns out, is linked to cancer and organ damage, premature death Parkinson’s and endocrine disruption. In fact, rats that ate just tiny amounts of Roundup in their drinking water, had organ damage, premature death and massive tumors as large as 25% of their body weight. Now when scientists discover problems with GMOs, they’re typically fired, threatened, gagged, stripped of responsibilities, forced out. And sure enough, when the French team reported this MOST comprehensive study yet published on GMOs, the other side tried to use unscientific methods to attack the research as unscientific.
Smith says people can spread the word about GMOs and help raise the tipping point for change and starveGMO foods out of the marketplace.
Smith: There’s so many millions of parents that want to protect their kids, who are most at risk, there are thousands of doctors that prescribe non GMO diets to everyone and there’s religious groups that think that GMO really means God move over! So we think there are early signs of a tipping point that have been going on for the last 2 or 3 years. We’ve seen 19 states introduce labeling bills in their legislation and what we’ve found now is that this is gaining traction and changing the collective awareness in the United States on GMOs and we will see a tipping point.
